What fits on a list like this
Just a few ideas. Add them with a store link or simply as text.
- Floor lamp for the hallway
- Folding step ladder
- A good cutting board
- Starter tool set
- Plants for the windowsill
- Hardware store gift card
After a move, you’re missing exactly the things nobody thinks about beforehand: a second pot, a step ladder, a lamp for the hallway. When you invite people to a housewarming, they’re bound to ask what you need – and you usually answer “nothing.” A wishlist is the more honest answer, and it also keeps three people from bringing the same salad bowl.
Common questions: Housewarming
- Should you bring a gift to a housewarming?
- Yes, it’s customary to bring something small. Guests commonly spend $20 to $50, and something for the home or something to enjoy together that evening both work. Anything large or decorative is better left to the hosts’ own taste.
- What are traditional housewarming gifts?
- Bread, salt and wine are the classic trio, familiar to many from “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Bread stands for never going hungry, salt for flavor in life and wine for joy. Plants and candles are popular modern choices.
- How soon after moving should you host a housewarming?
- Usually within the first few months, once the boxes are unpacked and the rooms feel lived in. There’s no fixed rule, and a party six months later is still welcome. Some hosts keep it casual with an open house over an afternoon.
- How do you thank friends who helped with the move?
- Pizza and drinks on moving day are the usual start. Many people follow up with an invitation once the new place is set up, often as the first guests at the housewarming. Offering to help with their next move closes the circle.
Is it rude to share wishes for a housewarming?
People ask anyway. A link is a more relaxed answer than “nothing, really, nothing.”
Can I add secondhand items?
Yes. Just add a note that secondhand is welcome.
Can guests see what’s already taken?
Yes, that’s the point. Who took it, they can’t see.
Do my guests need an account?
No.
What does it cost?
Nothing.
